Michelle Chen is a professional painter, artist, and illustrator located just outside of Vancouver, B.C., Canada. She creates originals and reproduction pieces using markers, watercolors, and acrylics. She spends summers at her home studio creating custom work and her portfolio of which she has copyrights.
She can be hired for:
Send an email to contact@greyenvironment.com with your order or fill out our contact form. You will receive a digital download in a link to confirm your order, then we’ll ship the original print(s) to your address on file.
Prices are in Canadian Dollars (CAD). You can make a Canadian bank-to-bank transfer, Interact E-Transfer, or add me to your payroll for a set duration once we have an agreement in place.
The best way to start is by identifying the painting(s) you want commissioned for your rooms, buildings, and more. Please do not send more than just a few lines of text in description of what you want painted unless the picture or photo you supplied are your own which means you own the copyright.
How many custom pieces do you want? How do you want it framed later? What do you intend to do with the painting? Frame it, display it, sell it, or resell it? The details do not really affect the price or a quote, but it will help me out tremendously.
Yes we take a maximum of 12 commissions per year for all kinds of paintings, chiefly acrylic paintings today. The buyer will need to pay 100% upfront for their vision and idea, and we will work with them to create the right painting down to colors, composition, and canvas size.
We happily work on reproductions of other paintings (as long as you have permission) or our own works with slight tweaks here and there to meet your requirements.
Before I start a commission I will always ask what kind of art you want completed. If you want a reproduction of my own work please say so. I will gladly paint a new painting in a smaller, exact, or larger size based off my original paintings, and make some tweaks to the painting like choosing new colors for different objects.
For example if you like Flowers In The Window, but want a morning, evening, or direct afternoon feeling, I can create a new painting with that in mind.
The same thing goes if you want the curtains to be white, purple, pink, etc., instead of the base color which is yellow-orange, then state that in your request.
Because the paints dry out quickly when I mix colors, there isn’t a lot of time in the middle that will allow you to pre-approve colors, but I will do my best to make you happy with the final painting.
Finally if you want the painting in a different size, I can do that for you, as long as you request the kind of painting you want, landscape or otherwise.
Of course if you want to leave it all up to me, I much prefer that also!
I have a waitlist for 12 spots in 2027, then 12 more in 2028. As usual to reiterate the above, the buyer will need to pay 100% upfront for the painting once I have reached them.
Beforehand, you can cancel anytime without having to pay for the painting. In order to secure your spot on my waitlist, please pay 50% upfront then the remaining 50% when I begin your order.
Acrylic paintings are one unit per waitlist. I am only working on a maximum of 12 acrylic paintings per year for clients. You can absolutely book in all 12 slots for yourself to hire me part-time or full-time on a big set of commissions.
Watercolor work are 10 units per waitlist. Every customer can purchase up to 10 custom watercolor paintings per waitlist, so I am available for a maximum of 120 watercolors a year. The work is based off the standard 5×7 size of my paintings. Anything larger will be considered in the same ball-park as acrylic paintings.
